Hello Bexar County,
On the morning of September 7, I appeared in front of the Commissioner’s Court to defend my position on the upcoming budget proposal. The proposal would delete 12 first responder positions from the Sheriff’s Office and “reallocate” them to the various constables’ offices.
While I support other agencies getting more uniform positions, I do not believe it should come at the expense of currently established BCSO positions nor at the risk of public safety.
The positions slated to be taken from the BCSO and “reallocated” include deputies from our SWAT Team and Criminal Investigations Division—units that specifically target organized crime and investigate violent felonies. I sent commissioners a letter last week to make several points, one of which that I would ask for public input on such a counterproductive move.
I’m publishing that letter and all attachments below and I’m urging the public to weigh in on the topic by emailing [email protected]
Respectfully,
Sheriff Javier Salazar
